All Flared Up

Tales of Autoimmune Illness and the Journey to Self-Tolerance

Dear Me,

A letter to my conscious myself, from my higher myself.

There is a softness to you sometimes which is so radiant that when I allow myself to inhabit you, our body feels warm and flowy, like thick honey.

Why don’t we stay there together for awhile?

Because when you relax into being you, everything slows down to a reasonable pace. You breathe deeper and I can see that your mind is not going in a thousand different directions.

I have observed the ways you are learning how to trust your intuition and I am so incredibly proud of you. Each time you do that, I grow stronger. The stronger I grow, the more energy I have to help you on your path.

Your struggles are also mine. Some of them cause pain, some emotional anguish.

When you started meditating, I was cautiously optimistic. There have been many things you’ve started and then abandoned, simply because you are extremely hard on yourself. You think that if you can’t do it well, you shouldn’t be doing it.

But this time it’s different. This time you are meditating regularly. Not everyday, but often enough that it has become a practice.

Know that I am here rooting you on. I always am.

With each meditation, you are creating an opportunity for me to communicate directly with you. If you hear a voice in your head that is friendly and supportive, that is me.

All of the other voices – the ones that make you feel bad about yourself – are white noise. Notice they are there, but do not focus on them. They are not meant to help you. They are meant to trap you in behaviors you learned but that do not serve you.

Return to your softness. The part of you that makes you like who are are. Do it again and again until that like turns into love.

You can do this even though it’s hard.

Because I know you can.

Because we are one, you and me.
